Marco Asensio was forced to leave Real Madrid’s second preseason game against Arsenal with a left knee injury and Madrid’s medical staff fear the attacker tore his ACL, which could ultimately mean he might miss a big part of the 2019-2020 season, if not more.
“We’re a bit concerned. It’s his knee, he’s gone straight to hospital for some tests so we’ll see… But it doesn’t look good. It’s the downside of today for us, we’ve lost a player and we’re pretty gutted. We’re gutted for Marco and hope it will be the least serious possible outcome,” said Zidane after the game.
Real Madrid have not published a medical report yet but Asensio’s injury appears to be serious. This is terrible news for Los Blancos, who were expecting the Spanish attacker to become an undisputed starter on Madrid’s right wing this season.
Now, if the doctors confirm Asensio tore his ACL, Zidane will have to find someone else to play there on a consistent basis.
