Match Preview

Venue: Allianz Arena; Munich, Germany

Time: July 31; 6 PM CEST

The Audi Cup continues Wednesday between Real Madrid and Fenerbahce in a match for third place. Real lost to Tottenham 1-0 on Tuesday, another disappointing defeat that lacked a full effort. Fenerbahce lost their match to Bayern in a 6-1 rout.

This match is essentially a consolation prize for the winner for at least making the trip to Munich for this preseason tournament. Real Madrid need something positive here to get this losing taste out of their mouths before the season starts.

They were dominated by Tottenham for most of Tuesday’s match with very little positives to draw from it. Rodrygo scored the tying goal before it was waved offside. Outside of that, the effort truly lacked and they really looked like they weren’t trying their hardest at all. They need a much better effort against Fenerbahce.

The injury list for Real Madrid remains as follows: Brahim, Mendy, Courtois, Asensio, and Jovic.

Fenerbahce are without Tolgay Arslan, Okan Turp, and Serdar Aziz for this preseason tourney.

There are no suspensions for this match on either side.

Confirmed XIs

Real Madrid

Navas; Odriozola, Nacho, Varane, Marcelo; Kroos, Isco, Valverde; Vinicius, Hazard, Benzema

Obviously, most of the starters that played most of Tuesday’s match, such as Carvajal and Ramos, are not starting against Fenerbahce here on Wednesday.

The addition of Valverde to the starting lineup will hopefully help with control and curb their defensive shortcomings in midfield. The lack of Casemiro’s presence here has been a glaring issue this entire preseason.

Altay; Reyes, Jailson, Murat, Dirar; Alper, Ozan, Ferdi; Kruse, Rodrigues, Muriqi

Real Madrid—Fenerbahce 3-1

With how disappointing Real have been prior to even the new season starting, they need some sort of boost soon. Winning here, while not a great achievement, would at least settle their heads a bit after a sever lack in effort the last couple of matches.

Fenerbahce are looking for redemption as well after losing 6-1 to Bayern, so their effort will likely be there fully. This a match this Real Madrid should and can win to get the confidence lift they need.

There’s still two preseason matches left next week, against Red Bull in Salzburg on Wednesday and then against Roma at Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.

The effort needs to be there the remaining friendlies to get some positivity in this squad heading into the LaLiga season. Most importantly for the players, but also it seems like the fans need some positivity as well the way things have gone.
