Despite all the Neymar rumors, Ajax midfielder, Donny Van de Beek, is still expected to join Real Madrid. The announcement has likely been held off until after Ajax’s return leg against PAOK in the Champions League, as they battle to qualify for the competition. Ajax would like to have Donny available in order to ensure their best opportunity to qualify. Despite the rumors and despite an apparent deal already being agreed, Van de Beek continues to play and continues to shine for Ajax. He scored and assisted in the match vs FC Emmen today and has already produced three assists and two goals in three matches this season.
After the match, Van de Beek was once again asked about his imminent move to Real Madrid. “There are still negotiations. I would like things to be resolved as soon as possible. When I am at the stadium and playing, I don’t ever think about my possible move,” the midfielder told reporters.
Given the lack of depth in midfield and the failure to sign Paul Pogba, Van de Beek’s signing has become essential. Zidane will be hoping that the Dutchman continues his fine goal-scoring form once he moves to Spain. Given the timelines reported by the Spanish press, both the futures of Neymar and Van de Beek could be finalized by the end of next week.
