The season has not started yet but Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr. has already tweeted his potential discouragement with his current role after being benched for the friendly against Roma, which is Madrid’s last preseason game before the real season begins next Saturday.

“There’s always light at the end of the tunnel. Last friendly of the preseason. God bless us,” tweeted Vinicius right after the starting lineup was published.

The truth is that, while this is only the preseason, the winger has not been a very relevant player for Zinedine Zidane ever since the Frenchman returned to the club. He’s still 20 years old but was one of the bright spots last season and he was expected to be a key player for Madrid this season, even more so after Marco Asensio’s ACL injury.

Vinicius must stay patient but it’s also true that he needs minutes to keep improving his game and developing as a player. Zidane has to find him a role where Vinicius stays engaged and has the minutes to progress.
