Real Madrid defender Marcelo talked to Sport Bild in an interview and shared his thoughts on the current squad and whether the team needs more depth before the transfer window closes or not.
“Our squad is good. it’s tough, but if we focus on the task ahead we can win every title,” said Marcelo when asked about Madrid’s transfer policy this summer.
The defender received criticism last year after completing some very worrying performances. However, Marcelo reveals that his experience helped him through it.
“What happened last season was just a small part of what I’ve received since I first arrived in Madrid. I learned to live through that. I am the first person who knows when I’m in good form or not. Criticism doesn’t concern me, when I am not playing well I need to keep working to improve,” explained the defender.
Real Madrid will obviously try to compete for the treble this season, although Marcelo knows how difficult it is to win all three of the major trophies.
“We know that winning the Champions League is tougher every year and the same can be said about La Liga and the Copa del Rey. Clubs from every country work all the year to improve and compete for the Champions League and that’s what makes it tough,” added Marcelo.
The defender was also asked about Toni Kroos, who is Real Madrid’s only German player in the current squad and receives quite a lot of attention from the German press.
“He’s a great player. He’s won it all with Real Madrid and also with the German national team. He’s not a serious guy, he’s fun and happy. I’ve shared so many moments with him, he’s a great guy,” concluded Marcelo.
