Colombian legend Carlos Valderrama has talked to Blog Deportivo to discuss the situation around Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, who appeared set to leave the club but ultimately could stay in the Spanish capital.

“James? He should go to another team. The coach doesn’t want him and he won’t play if he stays in Real Madrid. He should leave, that’s just how it is. When James signed for Madrid the fans were excited and so was the president, but the coach just doesn’t want him,” said Valderrama.

Asensio’s ACL injury could very well give James a chance to compete for a spot in Real Madrid’s right wing, although it’s clear that Zidane just doesn’t want to have him around.

“The problem here is that he is not going to play if he stays in Real Madrid. It would be better for him to leave, given that the coach is the one in charge of the starting lineup. Considering his skills he can play in every club,” explained Valderrama.

It will be interesting to see if Zidane decides to include James in Real Madrid’s squad list for the upcoming friendly match against Red Bull Salzburg. Militao and Casemiro, who joined Real’s squad in training the same day as James, are ready to play, so James’ absence would be meaningful if Zidane decides to travel without him.
