Ajax want to keep Van de Beek until they beat PAOK in Champions League Qualifiers

The midfielder will play both legs against PAOK and potentially the next tie as well.

Ajax midfielder Donny Van de Beek will not complete his move —which seems all but sure— to Real Madrid until the Dutch club secure their presence in the 2019-2020 edition of the UEFA Champions League Qualifiers, August 13th. That’s according to a report from AS.

Ajax would earn €15 million if they participate in the European competition, so it makes sense for them to keep one of their best players until they do so.

Apparently, Madrid will pay €55 million to sign Van de Beek away from Ajax, who have obtained a solid 2-2 away draw against PAOK in the first leg of the qualifier. The return leg will be played at the Amsterdam Arena, where Ten Hag’s side should be considered the heavy favorites to advance and play in the next round.

Van de Beek seems ready to become Real Madrid’s next signing but Los Blancos and the midfielder might need to wait one week before the deal becomes official.
