Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has talked to GQ, revealing that he reached a verbal agreement with Manchester United to join the Red Devils back in 2014.

“I knew Manchester United wanted me and Moyes was supporting the move. We talked a lot about United’s plans and had a nice time, he convinced me. In the end, we agreed to complete the move, but just verbally. I’m not someone who spends time wondering about what could’ve been, but yes it was close. I almost became a Manchester United player, but in the end it didn’t happen,” reveals the midfielder.

Ultimately, Madrid got involved and quickly found a way to complete a deal for the German player right after the end of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Kroos believes that he’s won many trophies because of that decision.

“I’m only certain of one thing: I wouldn’t have won three Champions League titles had I signed for Manchester United,” concluded Kroos.

The German player just signed a contract extension with Real Madrid and will enter the season as an undisputed starter in the midfield.
