Whoever thought that a win would be so difficult to watch? Literally. For whatever reason, Real Madrid TV English decided that instead of airing their women’s team, they would broadcast an old game against Bayer Leverkeusen. The only stream offered through Twitter was a split screen of the CD Tacon and Juvenil A game where they were switching between commentators. Thankfully, one of our Twitter followers came to the rescue and pointed out a stream via Footters on Facebook that worked solidly for the first half, but came and went during the second (not being on the same continent as the game can definitely be an issue.) I finally got tuned in during the 17th minute.
CD Tacon took on Sporting Huelva in their first ever game at home and won 3-0. Our lineup wasn’t much changed from the last game with the exception of seeing Thaisa in the midfield instead of Malena, and getting to watch our newest signing, Super Falcon Osinachi Ohale, where Lucía Suarez played last week. Ohale comes to us after two seasons in Sweden, her last being with Växjö DFF. She has had a total of 26 caps with Nigeria, but was not called up for the 2019 Women’s World Cup. Both Malena (for Thaisa) and Lucía (for Samara Ortiz) were subbed in in the second half, along with Lorena Navarro (for Chioma Ubogagu) and Gema Prieto (for Kosovare Asllani).
The first two of our three goals were scored in the first half — the first by Sofia Jakobsson who made it look easily. Kaci took a throw-in from Ester and put it up top for Sofia to put in. The second came from a header by Jessica Martínez (did you know that both of Jessica’s goals have been headers?) Kaci, again, got the ball to Sofia to put it across for Jessica. The third came in the final ten minutes of the game from Kosovare Asllani. Sofia passed the ball up field where Asllani got the keeper to commit before putting the ball in the net.
The teams seemed a little more evenly matched this time than they were against FC Barcelona Femení. Possession was pretty evenly split between the two, but CD Tacon created and capitalized on more chances overall. Tacon also seems to have worked on communication a bit in the time between the games as they moved more cohesively today.
CD Tacon takes on the current second place team, Logroño, at Las Gaunas next Sunday at 4 AM Mountain Time.
