Real Madrid president Florentino Perez talked to the club's socios in the yearly meeting to discuss the status of the club and explained why the first team completed such a poor season last year.

"It clearly wasn't the season we wanted and hoped for, we have to understand that this team won it all but it's true that we lacked the intensity needed to keep winning," said Pérez when asked about the 18-19 campaign.

Still, Real's president is confident about the team's chances of turning things around this season.

"Be sure that we will change what happened. We have to do the necessary changes and our challenge is to win in this competitive and complex scenario. Of course we're hungry, we enjoyed a very successful period and the players deserve our respect because nobody managed to win three straight Champions League titles and these players and this coach achieved it," he added.

Pérez also wanted to defend Real Madrid's moves in the transfer market this summer.

"This squad is one of the most valuable in the world of football. We've added seven new players and Hazard is one of them. All our fans were encouraged with his signing, he was the Premier League and the Europa League's Best Player. We also added Jovic, who is still 21 and scored 27 goals last season. Mendy was the best left back in the French league. Militao, James are also veey talented while Rodrygo is the big hope of Brazilian football. We also signed Areola to replace our beloved Keylor Navas. We always want to focus on young players and that will be the cornerstone of our project. We also believe in our academy as the values of the club are shared in Valdebebas," explained Florentino Perez.

Real Madrid's current season could be defined by the next few away games, as Los Blancos will visit PSG, Sevilla and Atlético de Madrid in a span of just two weeks.
