The Real Federacion Española de Futbol named Jose Luis Gonzalez Gonzalez as the referee for next Saturday’s match between Atletico de Madrid and Real Madrid, which will be played at Atletico’s Wanda Metropolitano.

Gonzalez Gonzalez has never been in charge of a Madrid Derby but has refereed both teams many times in the past. Real Madrid have a record of 17 wins, 5 draws and 3 losses with him in charge while Atletico’s record is 16 wins, 3 draws and 7 losses.

This will be the first time these two teams meet since Atletico dismantled Los Blancos with a 3-7 win this past pre-season. It’s clear that Atleti took that game much more seriously than Real but still Zidane’s men will surely want to earn redemption and score some points on Saturday’s visit.

Real Madrid are one point ahead of Atletico de Madrid in the table and four points ahead of Barcelona, so a draw could be considered a positive result for Zidane’s men considering how tough it is to play a Madrid Derby in Atletico’s stadium.
