Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez received an offer to leave the club and join Sevilla this past summer but ended up deciding to stay in Madrid, where he will be the team’s fourth center-back after the arrival of Eder Militao. That’s according to a report from Marca.
Former Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui wanted to sign Nacho for his new project in Sevilla. The club thought about his future after Vallejo’s solid performances to end the 2018-2019 season proved to be good enough for Madrid’s fourth center-back, but Nacho’s decision to stay ultimately forced the club to send Vallejo to Wolverhampton on a loan deal.
Nacho’s versatility and ability to play in both flanks as a defender could be useful throughout the season, although Real Madrid have plenty of depth on their defensive line with Carvajal, Odriozola, Marcelo and Mendy.
In the end, this season won’t be easy for Nacho, who will spend most of the time sitting on the bench and waiting for a chance to be relevant.
