Andriy Lunin came up big in tonight’s Copa del Rey second-round clash between Marbella and Valladolid. Lunin, who typically only starts cup games for Valladolid, saved two penalties in the shootout after the game ended 1 - 1 in regulation.
The shootout, including the two saves from Lunin, can be found below:
This may have been Lunin’s last match in a Real Valladolid shirt. Their next Copa del Rey match won’t be until the transfer deadline has passed, and Real Madrid, in recent days, have accelerated the pursuit to end Lunin’s loan deal quickly and find him a new home.
The latest reports from Marca indicate that Lunin’s next home will be at Real Oviedo, which seems like a sound move for both parties. Kiyan and Matt have discussed on the loan-tracker podcast multiple times that it would be better to loan Lunin out to a Segunda club than to have him not play at all. Luca Zidane has played well there at Racing Santander this season, and Lunin can start showing his skill-set on a regular basis in the lower division.
Tonight’s success in the shootout should help with finding him a landing spot.
Fede Valverde is fast, but I didn’t know he was THAT fast... wow... Inaki Williams was considered the fastest last year with a sprint of 34.4, Fede has even beaten that. https://t.co/joMCNG6VwI
