Real Madrid defender Achraf Hakimi, currently playing for Borussia Dortmund on a loan deal, has talked to Ruhr Nachrichten about his future and his potential return to the Spanish capital next summer, as soon as his loan expires.
“My heart is split between Dortmund and Madrid,” says Achraf, who has blossomed into one of Europe’s most talented right-backs during his two seasons in the Bundesliga.
On paper, it would seem that Madrid will just decide to keep Achraf past next summer, given that the defender seems more than ready to compete for the starting spot with Dani Carvajal. Alvaro Odriozola has been very disappointing during his two seasons in the club and Madrid will most likely part ways with Odriozola just to make room for Achraf.
However, Achraf himself has admitted that he will have to make a decision about his future next summer.
“There’s still six months until summer and that means that a lot of games are yet to be played, but in the end I will be the one who has to make a decision. What are the pros about Dortmund? What’s waiting for me in Madrid?,” explains Achraf.
It would seem that the defender is concerned about his future role in Real Madrid if he stays in the Spanish capital next season. It’s clear that he would be the undisputed starter in Dortmund, a role Zidane might not be willing to promise him yet. Still, Achraf is definitely a player Madrid should keep around, even if they have to convince him.
