The Spanish Football Federation confirmed that Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde has received a one-game suspension because of the red card he saw during Sunday’s 2020 Spanish Supercup Final, meaning that he will miss Madrid’s home match against Sevilla this upcoming Saturday.
Article 56.8 of the Disciplinary Regulations by the Spanish Football Federation establishes that suspensions in the Spanish Supercup will carry over to La Liga, no matter how big they actually are.
Valverde is an instrumental player for Zinedine Zidane and an undisputed starter, so it will be hard for the French coach to replace his physical presence in the midfield. Furthermore, Sevilla are a possession-oriented team under Julen Lopetegui, so Zidane will have an important decision to make this Saturday.
A four-man midfield of Casemiro, Kroos, Modric and Isco with Benzema and quite possibly Rodrygo upfront could be Real Madrid’s most likely starting XI, although James Rodriguez could also make his return to the lineup.
