LaLiga president reportedly wants Iker Casillas to run for Spanish Football Federation president
According to El Partidazo de COPE, LaLiga president Javier Tebas is reportedly encouraging Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas to run for Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president in the March election.
COPE reports that Casillas is considering running, but is thinking carefully since he isn’t officially retired and is still recovering from his heart attack with Porto.
They also report that current RFEF president Luis Rubiales intends to hold the election in late March. If Casillas doesn’t run, Rubiales would reportedly be automatically re-elected for another four years.
If this report is true, this is huge news for Casillas should he decide to actually run. He obviously is held in significant regard by both Real Madrid and Spanish football alike. As president, he would be in charge of both the Spanish national team and some domestic competitions in Spain, such as the Supercopa de España.
Real Madrid reportedly offer Bernabéu and all ticket sales for Copa del Rey to Unionistas
Following up on some news from earlier this week, COPE report that that are still doubts in regards to the Copa del Rey match between Real Madrid and Unionistas being held at the Salamanca side’s home ground, Las Pistas.
Reportedly, the stadium doesn’t have the best infrastructure and has lighting issues. Not to mention that it can only fit 4,000 people. Its city rivals, Salamanca CF, have reportedly offered Unionistas its stadium, Helmantico, which fits 17,000. But, Unionistas president Miguel Sandoval says they would prefer to play at home first or at the Bernabéu than the home ground of its direct rivals.
In a most generous proposal, Real Madrid have reportedly offered the Bernabéu as an option to host the Copa del Rey matchup. The club also reportedly is willing to take on the organizing costs associated with the match and would give all tickets to Unionistas to ensure the match happens.
Hazard admits he gained weight over the summer
In more lighthearted news, Eden Hazard finally admitted he gained some weight over the summer break in an interview with Belgian outlet Sport/Foot Magazine.
“It’s true. I won’t hide it. When I’m on holiday, I’m on holiday. I put on five kilos in the summer. I’m one of those people who puts and loses weight easily.”
“When I was 18 in Lille I weighed 72 or 73 kilos. Then I wen’t up to 75 kilos when I gained muscle weight. In the summer I went up to 80 kilos, but lost it in 10 days.”
So, this basically confirms reports from earlier this season that he joined the club overweight. Fortunately, at least according to Hazard, he has already put the weight off.
This is just a funny story that showcases Hazard’s humorous personality a bit. He was just starting to get to top form in the five or so performances prior to getting injured, so whatever weight he held wasn’t really hindering that particular string of performances.
Hazard was pictured back in training on Wednesday, so hopefully that means he will be fully recovered in the coming weeks. His return is/was set for the beginning of February.
