After all the speculation, the signing has now been made official — Reinier Jesus is a Real Madrid player. The Brazilian turned 18-years-old on January 19th which gave Real Madrid the go-ahead to announce his signing. Juni Calafat, Real Madrid’s head scout in South America, was once again crucial to identifying Reinier and securing his services for the club. Flamengo inserted a release clause of €30 million into the young player’s contract and Madrid did not hesitate to trigger that clause.
The attacking midfielder was one of the most sought after talents in Europe. His many suitors included the likes of Manchester City, Juventus, Barcelona, Roma, Milan, Arsenal, and Everton among others.
The recently crowned Copa Libertadores champion has been gradually integrated into the first team with 15 appearances this season - 8 from the start and 6 as a substitute. During that time, he has played as center attacking midfielder, a left winger, and as a striker. He has already scored 6 goals and provided 2 assists. Reinier Jesus has been a constant presence in the Brazilian youth national teams, playing for the U15, U17, and most recently U23 pre-Olympic team.
