According to Antonio Romero of Cadena Ser and AS, Dani Ceballos has contacted Real Madrid in hopes of terminating his loan deal with Arsenal and finding a new destination to finish out the remainder of the season. The midfielder is determined to make the Spain squad for Euro 2020 this upcoming summer and does not want his lack of minutes to diminish his role or jeopardize his selection.

Ceballos picked up a muscle injury in early December which ruled him out until mid-January. During that time, Emery was sacked - a key component to Ceballos’ decision to move to Arsenal - and Mikel Arteta was brought in as the new manager. Despite recovering from his injury, Ceballos has not featured for a single minute under Arteta. Ozil, Torreira Xhaka, and even Guendouzi look to be ahead of the Spaniard in Arteta’s current pecking order.

Dani Ceballos hinted at an exit on social media earlier today, after commenting on a Hector Bellerin post, “I will miss those left footed shots to the back post”. It’s not clear if a move will materialize quick enough for the midfielder to get his move before the winter window closes. Or, this could be a ploy by Ceballos and his agent to mount some pressure on Arsenal in order to fit him into the team. What’s clear is that Dani Ceballos time away from the club has not been a resounding success and he will need to do more to try and ensure a future at Real Madrid.
