At least, one point in the Champions League group.
A difficult match yesterday in which Los Blancos drew 2-2 against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Champions League. In the players ratings article, Casemiro was adjudged MOTM. Another positive thing is that Hazard was back after a long time and was able to be influential in the game. The team however continues to struggle against teams with a compact deep block and Zidane has to find a solution for this. Jose C. Perez analyses the tactics in this game.
Kiyan and Om also discussed the game in depth in the podcast:
Zidane’s comments about the game.
Zidane was asked in the press conference after the game if he was worried about not getting through the group stage in the Champions League (Real Madrid is last in their group, with just 1 point). For Zidane, with performances like yesterday, he thinks the team will qualify for the R16 and will achieve good things. He also said the team showed its character by reacting to being down 2 goals and deserving the draw and maybe more.
Group B wide open after Inter draw.
Real Madrid can breathe a little easier after Shakhtar Donetsk drew at home (0-0) to Inter Milan. Inter dominated the Ukrainians but couldn’t find the back of the net. Group B is now wide open with Los Blancos sitting at the bottom of the group with 1 point. Next week’s clash against Inter in Madrid will be of utmost importance to both teams. Elsewhere in Europe, Atletico beat Salzburg 3-2, Bayern Munich beat Lokomotiv Moscow 2-1 and English clubs, Manchester City and Liverpool also won their fixtures against Marseille (3-0) and Midtjylland (2-0) respectively.
“He does what he wants”- Benzema hits out at Vinícius, according to Téléfoot.
Per the French TV show, Karim Benzema could be heard complaining about the Brazilian at half time of Real Madrid’s Champions League draw with Mönchengladbach. The programme Téléfoot broadcast a video in which Benzema allegedly complains to Madrid left-back and fellow Frenchman Ferland Mendy about Vinícius.
The video appears to be inconclusive and seems malicious in nature. Vinicius has previously hailed Benzema as one of the players helping him develop at Real Madrid, so this seems totally out of character. It should also be noted that Mendy did pass to Vinicius thrice after the half time break.
