Real Madrid published a medical report on Alvaro Odriozola, who suffered a calf injury and will be forced to miss Sunday’s away match against Levante.

Tras las pruebas realizadas hoy a nuestro jugador Álvaro Odriozola por los Servicios Médicos del Real Madrid se le ha diagnosticado una lesión en el gemelo de la pierna izquierda. Pendiente de evolución.

Odriozola was going to be Carvajal’s replacement in the starting lineup after he suffered a MCL injury this Friday, but coach Zinedine Zidane will have to look elsewhere for his right-back spot.

Nacho Fernandez, Lucas Vazquez and Ferland Mendy are now the three candidates to play on the right side of Madrid’s defensive line. Years ago, Nacho would’ve been the most obvious choice, but he’s well past his prime and hasn’t been tested in a long time. Vazquez should be good enough for a couple of games but has never been a defender, while starting Mendy on the right flank would force Zidane to deploy Marcelo on the left.

Militao could also be an option but he’s injured and won’t be available.

Real Madrid are in trouble and it will be interesting to see who Zidane plays as a right-back while both Odriozola and Carvajal recover from their injuries.
