Sergio Reguilon has once again been called up to the Spain squad ahead of the international break. The left back continues to impress while at Tottenham Hotspur and those performances have not gone unnoticed by Luis Enrique. While back home in Spain, Reguilon took some time to speak with Spanish radio station, Onda Cero, and chatted about the Spanish national team as well as debunking some myths surrounding the relationship between he and Luca Zidane. Rumors had spread in certain circles of the Spanish media that Zidane did not favor Reguilon because of a falling out between his son and Regui during their Castilla days. All that and more was covered in Reguilon’s interview:
La Selección
“The position of left back is very competitive in the Spanish National Team pool and for that I really value that they continue to call on me. I feel more and more integrated here with this team”.
Mourinho
“Mourinho has surprised me for the better, he has many good things.”
Departure from Madrid
“I am not in Madrid because it was something that did not depend on me, my conscious is clear. You cannot get frustrated by decisions that you do not make. I didn’t get to talk to Zidane. I know that Madrid has given me everything, I have a very special affection for the club”
Relationship with Luca Zidane
“I get along very well with Luca Zidane, I have never had a problem with him. Actually, it’s just the opposite, we get along very well and continue to maintain contact even today. It is absolutely false that I get on badly with him.”
Solari
“I will be grateful to Solari all my life. It is partly down to him that I am here today. Everything I am living these last few years has been a dream.”
Potential to face Madrid in the Europa League
“To face Madrid in the Europa League? Oh hush, hush, hush - that would be a very bad sign. Madrid is going to move on, they will fix what is happening in the Champions League.”
Marcelo
“Critics for Marcelo? Players at the highest level are always very exposed with media pressure”
