Ahead of Germany’s friendly against Spain this international break, Toni Kroos appeared on Einfach mal Luppen Podcast, where he voiced his displeasure at both FIFA and UEFA for their lack of consideration of the players’ voices.
Of the UEFA Nations League and proposed European Super League, Kroos said, “It’s clear with these new invented competitions, we’re simply puppets for both FIFA and UEFA. New competitions are devised such as the Nations League or the expansion of the Club World Cup to maximise profit and in doing so it’s simply pushing players to new physical limits”
On the proposed European Super League, Kroos said: “Sometimes it’s best to leave things as they are”.
Kroos is ultimately right. There is little rest for modern footballers with so many competitions and so much travelling. More care needs to be given to their physical health, and the lack of a player union is quite shocking.
