Real Madrid announced their squad for Saturday’s away match against Villarreal.
REAL MADRID SQUAD:
Goalkeepers: Courtois, Lunin, Altube.
Defenders: Carvajal, Nacho, R. Varane, Marcelo, F. Mendy, Chust.
Midfielders: Kroos, Modrić, Ødegaard, Isco, Aranda.
Forwards: Hazard, Asensio, Lucas V., Vini Jr., Mariano, Rodrygo.
This is an extremely thin squad for Real Madrid after Luka Jovic’s positive for Covid-19.
It won’t be easy for Madrid to beat Villarreal under these circumstances. Mariano will almost certainly lead the team’s offensive line and it’s been a while since he doesn’t feature as a starter. The midfield is another problematic line, since Zidane will have quality players at his disposal but none of them with the physical tools and defensive awareness to hold the team’s line and recover the ball often.
Furthermore, Madrid visit Inter Milan next Wednesday in what’s expected to be yet another crucial match for Los Blancos, who need as many points as they can gather in order to advance to the Round of 16 of the Champions League as winners of their group.
