The Spanish Women’s National team announced that Real Madrid Femenino captain Ivana Andrés will be unable to join the team for their last two European Championship Qualifiers.

Ivana Andrés played 56 minutes in Real Madrid’s 3-0 win against Real Betis Femínas. Coach David Aznar subbed the center back off and she was replaced by Claudia Florentino. At the time, it seemed like Aznar was giving the captain some much needed rest after playing every minute of every match this season.

Presumably Ivana Andrés picked up a knock and that is why she was subbed off and dropped from the Spanish National Team. Ivana Andrés has been replaced by Atlético de Madrid’s Laia Aleixandri.

The Spanish National Team will host Moldova on November 27 and Poland on December 1. Spain has not yet secured qualification for the European Championship, though they are expected to.

There has been no official announcement from Real Madrid Femenino or the Spanish National team about why Ivana Andrés will not join Spain. But she will have around two weeks of recovery time (if she is indeed injured) before Real Madrid plays again on the weekend of December 6.
