Real Madrid have a huge game in their Champions League group away at Inter on Wednesday, a match where a draw wouldn’t be the worst result in the world as it would keep them above the Italians. Zinedine Zidane, though, dismissed that notion when it was put to him. “We’ll go out to win,” the coach said in the pre-match press conference at the San Siro.
Real Madrid will be without Sergio Ramos for this game and will look to avoid adding to the terrible stat they have without him, as they’ve lost seven of their last eight Champions League games when he has been missing. On Ramos, Zidane said: “We know the player he is. We need to break that stat. He isn’t here, but we’ll try to change this poor run of results without him. We know this game is a final and that we’ll suffer and that we’re motivated to take the three points.”
Ramos isn’t the only absence, as Karim Benzema is out too. That means Mariano has another opportunity and Zidane was asked about Saturday’s goalscorer. The coach said: “Mariano showed the other day what he can do. He went out and gave everything. We’re happy with him.”
Finally, Isco and the possibility of a swap for Christian Eriksen was brought up, but Zidane dismissed that. “Isco is our player,” the Frenchman said. “I don’t know until when, but he’s a Real Madrid player. We’re happy this way.”
