Zinedine Zidane has analysed Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat to Alavés and he struggled to explain what he saw on the pitch of the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano on Saturday night.

In his post-match press conference, the coach said: “I have no explanation. We had good and bad moments. It does make it a lot more difficult when you concede after three minutes. This was our worst start to a match this season. Then, we couldn’t change the dynamic of the game and that annoys me. We didn’t do enough in the second half to change the dynamic of the game. But, we need to keep working and we need to get some of our players back. I have to work out a solution with the players, but I won’t say here what that is.”

Zidane was asked about Real Madrid’s chances of retaining their LaLiga Santander title. He replied: “The problem we have is the inconsistency. We also have a lot of problems right now with injuries. It’s not an excuse, but it’s reality.”

One of the latest injuries is that of Eden Hazard and Zidane was asked for an update on the Belgian. He said: “I think and I hope it’s just a knock. I hope it’s not a muscular injury.”
