Real Madrid Femenino dominated Deportivo Abanca 3-0 in Valdabebas on Wednesday. Las Blancas opened the scoring through a Sofia Jakobsson wonder goal and did not slow down. Kosovare Asllani added two more and Real Madrid cruised to the three points.
Player Ratings
Misa Rodriguez — 6: Misa did not have much to do in this match. But she did have some crucial interventions. In the sixth minute, she sprinted off her line to clear a dangerous throughball and made a great save on Helena Torres’s attempted chip. Misa made another good save on a cross-shot in the 81st minute to solidify her first clean sheet of the season. Her passing was not as good as it has been in the past few matches.
Olga Carmona — 7.5: Carmona slid into the starting lineup at left back, replacing Marta Corredera. She was beaten for pace on the play where Misa was called off her line and struggled in some of her 1v1’s early in the match. Afterwards, she recovered well and found her feet. Carmona was dynamic in attack. She dribbled by players, made overlapping and underlapping runs, and her range of passing was impressive. As the match progressed she started winning more defensive battles.
Babbett Peter — 7: Peter was pretty solid on the day but was not challenged too much. She covered well for Carmona when the left back was caught up the pitch and was good in the air. Peter also showed her quality by completing tackles in her own box and bodying players off the ball.
Ivana Andrés — 6.5: Ivana Andées was solid at the back. She was not forced into many tough situations but she stepped up when she needed to. She was also very comfortable on the ball and was Misa’s preferred outlet.
Kenti Robles — 6: Robles was good in possession and made good passes in her own half. She was not as involved as she has been in previous matches. Her crosses left something to be desired, though she ended up assisting Jakobsson’s goal. Robles was very solid defensively.
Kaci — 5.5: Kaci was good defensively. She broke up counter-attacks and won the ball back in the middle of the park. However, she was not as efficient going forward. Kaci had some good moments but her passing was not great and at times she clogged the space typically occupied by the forward line.
Teresa — 8.5: Teresa bossed the midfield. She dictated the tempo and constantly looked to unlock the Depor defense. Teresa was also dominant on the defensive side of the ball. She won possession with ease and immediately started counter-attacks.
Sofia Jakobsson — 8.5: Jakobbson faded in and out of the match but her quality was unmistakable. Jakobsson scored a beautiful goal after beating two players off the dribble and floated her shot into the top corner. Her goal opened up the match and provided a much needed confidence boost for Real Madrid.
Kosovare Asllani — 9: Asllani was not very involved in build-up and she botched two really good 1v1 opportunities. Nevertheless, she continues to score for Las Blancas. Her first goal was a great finish. The second goal came after a great bit of skill she used to wriggle away from the defense. She missed the first chance but converted the second on the rebound.
Marta Cardona — 7.5: Cardona was a constant threat on the right flank. Her dribbling and close control allowed her to get out of tight situations and spring the attack. She provided an exquisite pass to assist Asllani’s first goal and almost added another in the second half. Her finishing wasn’t the best but she was always active.
Jessica Martínez — 5.5: Jessica is always involved in a match doing the little things. She fights for every ball, her movement opens space for others, and her defensive work-rate is unmatched. But she did not get on the ball much in the game. This was no fault of her own. The Paraguayan needs service to be effective and she just didn’t get it today.
Substitutions
Lorena Navarro — 6.5: She came on in the 65th minute and was lively. She got involved immediately and almost had a hockey assist when she found Jakobsson in space on the left.
Thaisa — 6: Thaisa was subbed on for Teresa in the 67th minute. She was accurate with her passes and had a shot saved for a corner.
Chioma Ubogagu — 6.5: Chioma fed Asllani the ball before Asllani scored the third. Ubogagu put the defense under pressure and looked good in her few substitute minutes.
