Real Madrid lost 4-1 to Valencia on Sunday night, despite taking the lead at Mestalla in the first half. It was a rollercoaster game that left fans dazed and confused, while Zinedine Zidane was left experiencing similar emotions.

“It’s hard to understand what happened in this match,” he said afterwards in what was a very brief post-match press conference. “Everything happened, with three penalties and an own goal. After our goal, the dynamic changed and we changed what we were doing. Everything came together today.”

There was an element of VAR in all four of the Valencia goals, but Zidane didn’t want to discuss the officiating. “I don’t talk about the referees,” he said when asked.

Zidane was also asked if he felt he’d made tactical errors. He replied: “I don’t think Valencia were tactically better, but I am the one to blame because I’m the one who needs to find solutions.”
