The good fortune keeps coming for Real Madrid as they come away with a crucial 2-0 win over rivals Atlético Madrid. The win is extremely important as they now close the gap to just three points and sit third in the table.
See player ratings below.
Thibaut Courtois — 7.5: Wasn’t tested too much this game as the visitors couldn’t get into the match. Not much to say here. Huge save at the end of the game to grab another clean sheet which is a big plus.
Dani Carvajal — 7.5: Returned to the starting XI and what a debut it was. Showed that he was ready to get back into the team and give it his all. Persistent threat tonight and scored a great goal (though deemed an OG from Jan Oblak). Finished with one shot and five tackles but 84% pass completion. Subbed after 78 mins.
Raphael Varane — 7.5: Looked very comfortably tonight alongside Ramos, great to see him play another stable 90 mins. Did well under pressure in the box and didn’t concede corners. Helped earn another clean sheet. Finished with two tackles.
Sergio Ramos — 8: Lead his team to another very important victory. You could see the leadership and the passion emulating from Ramos after each goal. Paired well with Varane at the back to keep the clean sheet. Finished with three tackles and one shot.
Ferland Mendy— 7: A decent performance but Mendy struggled with some of his passing and gave the ball away a few times. Also struggled when under pressure from some Atlético players. Finished with one tackle, one dribble and one shot.
Casemiro — 8: Scored the opening goal tonight and you could see exactly what it meant to him. Was integral in helping Real maintain possession especially in the first half. Finished with one aerial won and one shot. Also earned a yellow which means he misses the next match.
Toni Kroos — 8.5: Another masterclass from the German. Key to Real’s dominance in the first half and helped the midfield look at the top of their game. On a side note, very lucky to get away with not injuring his knee. Finished with one shot, one dribble, one aerial won, two tackles, two key passes and 97% pass completion.
Luka Modric — 8: On the top of his game tonight. Crucial during Real’s first-half performance and helped keep the team moving forward. Finished with two shots and two aerial duels won. Subbed after 87 mins.
Lucas Vazquez — 8: Positioned up top at the beginning but eventually moved to the right-back position as Carvajal was substituted. Great shot to test Jan Oblak in the dying minutes of the game. Showed great awareness all night. Finished with a team-high six tackles and two key passes.
Karim Benzema — 8.5: Another top performance from the Frenchman. One of the best players on the pitch tonight and was influential in the team’s performance despite not getting on the scoresheet. Great whereabouts tonight. Teed up Vazquez towards the end. Finished with three shots, one key pass and one tackle.
Vini Jr. — 7: Gets the start over Rodrygo but didn’t have too much to show tonight. Needs to get more involved with the attack and stay confident in his abilities. Lost the ball too much tonight but did well to help out defensively. Finished with one dribble and three tackles. Subbed after 78 mins.
Substitutes:
Marco Asensio — 6: Seems to be the go-to substitute for Zidane but still needs to get more involved when he does get time on the pitch. Expecting more from him.
Rodrygo — 6: Loses his spot to Lucas Vazquez in the starting lineup but was the most involved sub on the night. Finished with two tackles and one aerial duel won.
Fede Valverde — N/A: Not enough time to earn a rating but great to see him back in action.
