Real Madrid Femenino kicked off against Levante at 12:00 CET (6:00 am EST). Las Blancas claimed their fifth straight win with ease against a struggling Espanyol side.
Olga Carmona scored in her second consecutive game to open Las Blancas’ account in the ninth minute. Espanyol seemed to adjust defensively after the first goal but that adjustment turned out to be a mirage. Chioma Ubogagu added another in the 33rd minute to score her first goal of the season. Carmona secured her brace only six minutes later to make it 3-0 going into half time.
Espanyol quickly got one back one minute into the first half but a Kosovare Asllani goal and and Espanyol red card opened the floodgates. Sofia Jakobsson scored to make it 5-1 and Ariana Arias scored her first senior goal. Lorena opened her account for the season and soon doubled it.
With this win Las Blancas have climbed within one point of UD Granadilla at the top of the table. Atletico Madrid have now dropped points in consecutive Primera Iberdrola matches and sit in fourth place.
Real Madrid play Atleti next weekend in a huge clash that could allow Real Madrid to solidify themselves as one of the teams to beat in the race for the UEFA Women’s Champions League spots.
