Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos was included in the 2020 FIFA FIFPro World XI, the best 11 players of the year. It’s the 11th time Ramos makes that team, and the 10th consecutive team he’s there also.

Ramos is the only Real Madrid player in the XI, which features Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Davies, Kimmich, De Bruyne, Thiago, Messi, Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo as well.

Ramos then released a press statement explaining what this award means to him.

“I want to dedicate this award to all the victims of the Coronavirus and to all those families who have suffered from it. I wish them all the best. I also want to congratulate my teammates of this world team and congratulations also to the winners of the women’s world team. For me it is a privilege to be part of this world team and making it for the eleventh time is special,” said Ramos.

The captain also wanted to praise his teammates for the award. Together, they conquered the 2019-2020 Liga title, a very important trophy for Los Blancos.

“I also want to thank my teammates from Real Madrid and the Spanish national team, because this is also thanks to them. Thanks to the people in football who have voted for us and Merry Christmas to you all. Let’s keep fighting in this game that we haven’t won yet, but we have to be able to defeat it and we’re sure to win,” added the defender.

Ramos is quite clearly the best defender in Real Madrid history and also the best Spanish defender of all time. He’s a living legend still performing at a high level, so it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid and Ramos’ camp reach an agreement to extend his contract, which expires next summer.
