At 35-years-old, Modric is the eldest member of the current Real Madrid squad. Despite Father Time looming, Modric has performed at an exemplary level the last 12 months and has arguably been Zidane’s most important player this season. The determination he’s shown on the field, the leadership role he has taken within the dressing room, and both the physical and technical skill-set he has shown off in the last year, have all led Real Madrid to come to the conclusion that an agreement on a renewal must be found.
The new contract will not have the same salary as the current one, but it will still keep Modric as one of the highest earners. It’s a testament to the Croatian’s character, to take a lower salary despite lucrative offers from Qatar and the MLS. Modric’s plan has always been to stay at Real Madrid and continue to win trophies.
By the summer of 2022, Luka Modric will mark 10 years at Real Madrid. One of, if not the greatest, central midfielders to ever play for the club. The renewal has been earned and Luka Modric will be weaving his magic wand for another year longer at his beloved Real Madrid.
