Casemiro, Real Madrid’s anchor in midfield, who spent a lot of time in Elche’s attacking third on Wednesday night, spoke to the press after the the 1 - 1 draw.
When asked about the penalty given to Elche, and, of course, the penalty not given to Real Madrid when Karim Benzema was allegedly held in the box, Casemiro said: “We don’t speak about the referee. He is there to help, just like the VAR. We only speak about football and our team”.
Casemiro also spoke about the team being unable to continue their win streak, as well as what went wrong for them in the second half.
“We were on a winning run and we wanted to continue that today,” Casemiro said. “We didn’t manage to do that, but there’s a long way to go in the league. That’s football. We started well and created chances to score more goals, but the opposition had a game plan and managed to score against us”.
“Then we fought hard, but they defended deep and played on the counter-attack. We always go out to win, but we have to keep going because there’s a long way to go. This is Real Madrid and in a few days we’ve got another important match against Celta and we have to focus on that”.
