Iker Casillas, arguably the greatest goal-keeper in Real Madrid history, spoke with Spanish radio station, El Laguero, to discuss the current situation with two of his former teammates, Zinedine Zidane and Sergio Ramos. He was defiant in regards to the current Real Madrid manager, waving away claims that Zidane should be replaced.
“I don’t understand why Zidane is being questioned, now is the time where you have to trust him more,” the former goalkeeper told El Laguero.
Those sentiments were backed up earlier in the day after an interview with AS, where again Casillas was emphatic in his defense of Zidane. “Zizou is a magnificent coach. He is a good friend and will do everything possibility to lift Madrid as high up as possible. You cannot live in the past but he’s earned the right for us to trust in him.”
The final statements from Casillas on the day were in regards to Sergio Ramos and the center back’s renewal. When asked about a potential departure of the Andalusian by El Laguero, Casillas had one simple statement: “The best have to be at Real Madrid, and Sergio Ramos is”.
The next month should reveal the future of both the Madrid captain and Madrid coach. Sergio Ramos’ renewal negotiations should be final before January, which would prevent him from talking to other clubs. As for Zidane, he has two massive matches ahead of him, including the deciding match in the club’s Champions League fate vs Borussia Monchengladbach on the final group-stage match-day.
