Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, who joined Real Oviedo this winter after his loan deal in Valladolid was terminated, spoke to Onda Cero and revealed that there are no plans about next season just yet.

Lunin was a reserve during all the 2018-2019 season with Leganes and the same was happening in Valladolid. Real Madrid ultimately decided that the young goalkeeper needed minutes to keep improving as a player and sent him to Segunda Division team Oviedo a few weeks ago.

“Why didn’t I play in Leganes? You’ll have to ask the coach, I don’t know, I was working and training so that I could play,” said Lunin. “For me it was tough to be on the bench in Leganes and Valladolid, I wanted to keep improving as a keeper,” he added.

Real Madrid’s backup goalkeeper Alphonse Areola is in the club on a loan deal, which means that Lunin could be Courtois’ backup next year unless the club decide to make an effort and sign Areola to a permanent deal. Lunin doesn’t know what his future looks like.

“I don’t know anything about Real Madrid for next season, we’re in touch with the club but I don’t know anything,” concluded the Ukrainian goalkeeper.
