Andriy Lunin, now on loan at second division club, Real Oviedo, was voted player of the month by the fans after his first full month with the club. The keeper was immediately placed into the starting XI after moving in the winter window and has already helped the Asturian club earn valuable points. His best performance came last weekend in a 1 - 1 draw with Rayo Vallecano, where he was aggressive and assertive off his line.

Speaking to the press after being awarded with the Mahou player of the month award, Lunin discussed the importance of playing and rediscovering his confidence: “In the first game I lacked minutes,an overall rhythm, and communication with my teammates, but we have improved that aspect. These five games have helped me recover my confidence but I can still do more, I can be better, and that’s what I’m working on,” he said. According to Lunin, he now has the confidence of the coaching staff and he wants to show what he is worth, “to help and keep growing”.

The Ukrainian, who belongs to Real Madrid, said that he is in touch with the club, but that he does not know what will happen with his future. Instead, he wants to focus on improving at Oviedo and achieving his next goal, a clean sheet. “I don’t talk to Real Madrid every day, but we are in contact with the club and the goalkeeping coach. Coming to Oviedo has been as I expected, but it can be all better,” he said.

Lunin’s words reveal that Real Madrid are indeed keeping a watchful eye over their top goalkeeping prospect. Lunin is an exciting talent and despite a couple of failed loan moves, it seems he has now found his feet with Real Oviedo.
