Martin Odegaard loves the Copa Del Rey. In his three matches played in the competition this season, he has scored three goals and contributed three assists. Six direct goal involvements within three games — impressive to say the least. The Norwegian star scored Real Sociedad’s second of the game in the 42nd minute to restore the Basque sides lead and ultimately give Alguacil’s men a much needed first leg victory. There is still a second leg to come, away to Mirandes, but Real Sociedad now find themselves in the driver seat to head to the Copa Del Rey final.

A mere three minutes prior to giving La Real the lead, Odegaard was dispossessed inside his own half leading to a blitzing Mirandes counter and an ensuing goal. There was no doubt that the Norwegian felt partially at blame for his side conceding, but made amends with his opportunistic volley:

The goal started and ended at Odegaard’s feet. Picking up the ball around the center circle, Odegaard drove through the midfield and unleashed a shot from outside the box which the goalkeeper could only parry. Portu snatched at the follow-up, only for Mirandes goalkeeper, Limones, again parried with Odegaard pouncing on the rebound and smashing his left footed volley into the back of the net.

The second leg takes place next week and Martin Odegaard and the rest of the exciting Real Sociedad team will be looking to book their ticket to the final.
