Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy didn’t get booked during Sunday’s match against Celta Vigo and that means that he’s still one yellow card away from being suspended, which means that he will miss El Clasico if he sees one during Madrid’s visit to Levante next weekend.
Considering how crucial Mendy is in terms on defensive stability, it’s likely that coach Zinedine Zidane keeps him on the bench when Real Madrid visit Levante next Saturday. Marcelo would be the starter in that game and while he hasn’t been great this season, he should be good enough against Levante considering that Mendy is probably more needed in El Clasico.
Casemiro was in a similar situation for the first El Clasico of the season last December and Zidane decided to keep him on the bench during the away match against Valencia, so that could suggest that Mendy will indeed get some rest this next Saturday to make sure that he’s available for El Clasico, right after the first leg of the Champions League’s Round of 16 against Manchester City.
