Match Review: Levante UD 2 - 1 CD Tacón

Tacón loses against Levante and turns their focus to Wednesday’s Copa de la Reina,

Tacón lost against Levante — the third best team in the league — this weekend in a tough away fixture. David Aznar, seemingly, decided to prioritize this week’s Copa de la Reina fixture, as he rested some of the most important players in the squad. Babett Peter was not called up for the game for unknown reasons and Asllani did not feature at all. Jakobsson, Ubogagu and Kaci were subbed off early for Lorena, Thaisa and Patri Carballo. All in all, none of the indisputable starting XI personnel played the full game.

Line-up

The first half was dominated by Levante, but Tacón managed to maintain a clean sheet. Claudia Zornoza was Levante’s best offensive player and created their most notable chance of the game in the 28th minute, when her shot hit the crossbar.

Tacón scored very early into the second half against all odds. Aurélie Kaci took advantage of a misunderstanding between Levante’s central defender and goalkeeper and scored her first goal of the season. The joy didn’t last long given that, a few moments later, Alba Redondo equalized for Las Granotas.

Levante made a triple change and three of their most crucial players, who had not been in the starting XI, came in: Maitane, Sonia Bermúdez and Esther González. Tacón’s response was to sub off Jakobsson, Ubogagu, Kaci ,and Esther for Thaisa, Patri Carballo, and Lorena came in for them. Carballo had one clear chance after another error from Levante’s goalkeeper, but Paraluta managed to save it and amend her mistake.

Las Granotas took a step forward in the dying minutes of the game and created several clear opportunities. Finally, after a poor defensive sequence from Tacón, Marta Corredera scored in the 87th minute.

Tacón will go head to head against Athletic de Bilbao next Wednesday at 19:00 in San Mamés. It is unclear if the game will be streamed or not, since, all Copa de la Reina games have been shown on TV so far, but it was rumored that this would change.
