The Spanish Football Federation named Mateu Lahoz as the referee for Sunday’s El Clasico between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona in La Liga. Lahoz has been in charge of four different meetings between Madrid and Barça and both teams have two wins apiece with him as the referee.
Lahoz has always been a controversial referee because he tends to allow a rougher game than some of his counterparts in La Liga. Knowing how crucial this El Clasico will be for both teams —Barça would increase their lead to five points with a win at the Bernabeu—, Lahoz will play a crucial part in this game.
Sunday’s El Clasico will likely be the last meeting of the season between Barcelona and Madrid, given that both sides are out of the Copa del Rey and Madrid’s chances of advancing to the Quarterfinals of the Champions League are slim after the 1-2 loss to Manchester City last night.
