Marcelo and Vinicius Jr, the duo that made up Real Madrid’s left flank on Thursday night, spoke to the media after the 2 - 4 loss to Real Sociedad at the Bernabeu in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals.

“We gave it our best but in the end it was too little, too late. The first half was tough going and although we had enough of the possession, we didn’t score. After the break, we gave our all but didn’t manage to pull off the comeback. That’s how we needed to react, by running and battling. It was a shame, but we’re still involved in two competitions”.

”No two games are the same and we never like conceding, but it’s hard to avoid and tonight we’ve shipped four at home. We’ve got good strength in depth and some top players. We always have to win and when we don’t it’s tough for us”.

Vinicius, Real Madrid’s best player on Thursday night, also spoke out, and reiterated to the fans that the team is still involved in the hunt for two major trophies.

“We weren’t on our game and it was a difficult clash. This time, the knock-out stage has been played in a single match and we lost it. It’s tough to lose at home because we’d been unbeaten on our turf”.

”We’ll fight tooth and nail until the end of the season. We never speak about it after the game, we’ll discuss what went wrong tomorrow. The fans have to keep it up, because we’ll be fighting to the very last to win LaLiga and the Champions League”.

”I’m like I was last season, in January and February, and want to keep it up until the end of the season. I hope not to suffer any sort of injury. The gaffer has shown me the trust I need and I’m now getting more game time”.
