Real Madrid attacker Vinicius Junior talked to FourFourTwo and revealed that he had to choose between Los Blancos and FC Barcelona when both clubs sent their offers two years ago.
“It was right after a tournament in Chile. There were some rumors on the press but I never believed them. Real Madrid and Barcelona both sent offers my way and I only had three days to make a decision. I always wanted to play for the best club so I ended up choosing Real Madrid,” said Vinicius.
The young wonder kid also explained that his parents visited Madrid and Barcelona before a decision was made.
“My parents visited both clubs and they liked Madrid better. They had what I wanted and I felt like their project was the best for me. They were giving minutes to young players and they were having huge success in the Champions League at the time,” added Vinicius.
Real Madrid end up spending €45 million to sign Vinicius away from Flamengo and the young player said that it was tough for him to prove that he was worth the investment.
“I had to make everyone forget about the price, it was one of the toughest things to do, even more so than playing consistently,” concluded the winger.
Vinicius was a notable surprise during his debut season in Real Madrid. However, he struggled getting consistent minutes during his sophomore campaign in the club and it wasn’t until the last few weeks when he started making the impact he was expected to make when the season started.
