Chimy Avila suffered a season ending knee injury in the Osasuna match vs Levante on January 25th. The cruciate ligament injury will see the feisty Argentine out of action until at least July. There were strong suggestions that the player was being lined up for a move to either Sevilla, Barcelona, or Atletico Madrid in the winter market but after the injury any move was off the table.
In an interview with MARCA, the player spoke about the difficulty of motivating himself to go to therapy everyday. He pulls from multiple sources to motivate himself including messages from two Real Madrid legends.
”Roberto Carlos wrote to me [after the injury], Sergio Ramos called me to offer help in the recovery... players that I used to watch as a child on TV. That has given me even more strength.”
“It’s a pleasure to play against Sergio Ramos, you clash with him, hit him hard and nothing happens. Others complain,” he noted.
It’s clear that Chimy has both admiration and respect for the two Madrid legends. The messages show the class of the individuals, Ramos and Roberto Carlos, who have earned tremendous respect for their off the field behavior and way of being.
