Former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz passed away this Saturday night after fighting coronavirus this last week. Sanz’s sons Fernando and Lorenzo Sanz Jr. told the media earlier this week that their father was in serious condition.
“My father just passed away. He didn’t deserve to go this way. We’re losing one of the bravest, hard-working and good-willing men I’ve ever seen. His family and Real Madrid were his two passions. My mother and my brothers enjoyed all his moments with pride. Rest in Peace,” tweeted Sanz’s son Lorenzo.
Sanz was 76 years old and was Madrid’s president from 1995 to 2000. Real Madrid won one Liga title and two Champions League trophies during his tenure as president. He played a crucial part in Real Madrid’s resurrection after the club spent 32 years without winning a single Champions League title. Sanz was a crucial president in Real Madrid’s history.
May he rest in peace.
