It’s no secret that Erling Haaland has a low release clause for a player of his calibre, and it was only a matter of time that Real Madrid were eventually linked with signing one of the best young strikers in the world.
These rumours will only wax hotter with the controversy surrounding Luka Jovic right now, but it’s clear that Real Madrid always do want to have the best young players in the world, and given that they still lack a lethal goalscorer, Haaland fits a position in need moving forward. (Of course, the discussion of anyone ever benching Benzema in the starting lineup is an entirely different conversation.)
The Evening Standard has now reported that Real Madrid are aiming to activate Erling Haaland’s release clause of £50m as early as this summer.
What happens with player contracts this summer remains to be unknown. The transfer market may get pushed several months down the road because of the delay in the football world right now, which may alter when Haaland’s release clause can actually be triggered.
