Sergio Reguilón has been an instrumental piece to Lopetegui’s system at Sevilla this season. After impressing in his debut season last year with Real Madrid, the youngster was loaned out in order to continue his development and make room for new arrival, Ferland Mendy. Where his future lies is still very much in the air — another loan, a return to Real Madrid, or could the fullback be sold? Would a buy-back clause be included? Reguilón’s future is likely tied to Marcelo’s future. If the Brazilian opts to leave Real Madrid this summer, then there would be an opening for the Canterano to return.
During the current break in La Liga, Reguilon spoke with Diario de Sevilla, and discussed his thoughts on both his current club and parent club. “I can’t believe that the match at the Wanda Metropolitano was the last match I played with Sevilla FC, and even more, it was a draw. It cannot be the last match, a draw, it cannot be, please, I don’t want to play my last match there...”, Reguilón reflected.
For Reguilón, it doesn’t matter when the season ends, but he wants to finish it out with Sevilla. “I would love to finish the season either on July 30th or August 30th with Sevilla. It’s my team and that’s my idea,” he told Diario de Sevilla from the confinement of his home.
Lastly, Reguilón was asked about his future. The Madrid Canterano was adamant that he would be happy in either club, “Yes, I am very good here, as I would be in Madrid. I am from Madrid and I have my life there. And I would love to succeed there.” he concluded.
