Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy talked to Telefoot and admitted his hopes of making France’s squad list for the upcoming 2020 UEFA Euro. Mendy isn’t an undisputed starter for Madrid and that could ultimately hurt his chances of featuring in the list.

“I hope I can make the list, but it’s the coach’s decision. For sure I want to play in the Euro, but I don’t know what will happen and I don’t know the rotation. For the time being I will try to be in the next list,” said Mendy.

The defender also reviewed his season so far.

“I haven’t established myself as the starter yet, there’s a lot of pressure here, that’s the main difference with Lyon. It’s not that I send Marcelo to the bench, I have played a little bit more than him and that’s it,” explained the defender.

Mendy also revealed why he signed for Real Madrid even though there were some other big clubs interested in his signing.

“Real Madrid is Real Madrid, that’s why I made that decision, and also Zidane was there. We met and there really wasn’t much to decide because he trusted in me. Furthermore, they also have more French players,” said Mendy.

The French left-back is still competing for the starting spot with Marcelo. Mendy gives Real Madrid more defensive stability but sometimes Los Blancos lack Marcelo’s offensive creativity, so coach Zidane has been picking his starting left-back based on who Los Blancos are facing.
