Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois suffered a groin injury during the team’s 2-1 loss against Betis this Sunday and is questionable for next week’s return leg against Manchester City in the Champions League’s Round of 16, according to a report from MARCA.
Courtois was seen limping after the game and Real Madrid are concerned about his injury. Right now, it looks like he will almost certainly miss Friday’s home match against Eibar, per that same report.
Courtois will go for tests today, which should reveal the extent of his injury. If he does suffer a significant groin injury, Alphonse Areola will replace him in the starting XI. Courtois has been brilliant this season and his absence could definitely hurt Real Madrid’s chances both in La Liga and the Champions League, so coach Zinedine Zidane and his coaching staff will surely hope that the tests reveal that his injury is nothing serious.
