Rodrygo: “Pele gave me his blessing before signing for Real Madrid”

Real Madrid wonder kid Rodrygo Goes talked to DAZN in an interview and revealed what went through his mind when he learned of Real’s interest to sign him away from Santos.

“Real Madrid is like Santos’ stadium Vila Belmiro, just a dream come true. Anyone who knows me knows that it was my dream, I always watched their games,” says Rodrygo about his current club.

The attacker also spoke about his idols and favorite players growing up as a kid in Santos’ academy.

“Cristiano and Neymar are sources of inspiration for me, I am a big fan of them. Pele, Neymar and Robinho mean a lot to me and also to my favorite team, which is Santos. Neymar is the player I followed the most but I had the chance to meet all three of them. Before I completed my signing for Real Madrid I visited Pele’s house and he gave me his blessing,” revealed Rodrygo.

It’s been a strange season for the young attacker, who started playing relevant minutes during the first third of the season but then disappeared and started playing for Real Madrid Castilla more often. Still, Rodrygo only has good words about coach Zinedine Zidane.

“I have a very good relationship with Zidane, he knew when the time was right for me to step on the pitch in order to get me ready. He helps me, gives me good advise and tells me where and how should I improve my game. He also tells me when I do something the right way,” concluded Rodrygo.

The Brazilian attacker has the potential to become a key star for Real Madrid in the future and now it will be up to the club to find him the minutes he needs to keep improving and developing as a player.
