Real Madrid right-back Achraf Hakimi has impressed during his loan deal in Borussia Dortmund, which will expire by the end of the current 2019-2020 season. Madrid have the option to bring him back and keep him for next season so that Achraf can compete with Carvajal for the starting spot, but the young defender has said many times in the past that he would like to play relevant minutes on a consistent basis, something Real Madrid might not be willing to grant him just yet.

Achraf talked to El Larguero last night and shared his thoughts about his future.

“My current contract with Real Madrid? My agent is the one who knows about that, I don’t know how many years left I have. I’m proud of what I’m doing with Dortmund, I will make a decision in June and it will be a big step in my career. I haven’t talked to Real Madrid about next year, we’ll have a conversation soon,” explained Achraf.

If Achraf ends up staying in Madrid next season Los Blancos will need to either sell or send Alvaro Odriozola on yet another loan deal. Achraf seems to have a higher ceiling than Odriozola and it would make a lot of sense for Madrid to keep him, even if it takes some convincing from Zinedine Zidane, who will have to find a relevant role for Achraf even if Carvajal starts the season as the main option for the right-back spot.
